Some chief of something-or-other in the Irish health service has stated that Ireland faces another year of restrictions. I have long believed the government would have some sort of zero-Covid strategy that in practice will be based around a high vaccine up-take, but for me the alarming bit is that they think it will be into 2022 before this is obtained.

This makes my rather pessimistic assumption of pubs being closed until September 2021 (i.e. a full 18 months) look doubtful and implies that they might actually face a full two years without revenue. I had already more or less given up on Irish pubs because on these time-frames whether I stay around at all has to be on the table.

The more general point here is that 2021 has barely started and to me this is a sign that the whole year is not going to be significantly better than 2020. Dublin simply does not offer enough to be worth two years of limbo.
